Classroom Professions: Student Ownership and Classroom Management
At the start of each semester students apply for a profession, a position within the classroom economy with set responsibilities and a set monthly salary. Professions give students a sense of ownership and belonging in the classroom and create a beautifully organized classroom management system for the teacher. This salary varies based on the amount of responsibilities that each profession has, some possible student professions, their responsibilities, and salaries are listed below:

- Professional Artist: No daily or monthly obligations, but no set monthly salary. Students who choose this profession must use their free time to complete extra Jobs to make up the difference. (N/A) [N/A]
- Bulletin board designer: Responsible for changing out the class bulletin board(s) at least once a month (Monthly) [$500 per board (x2 max)]
- Class Photographer: Responsible for taking photos of classmates working and in progress student work to be uploaded by the web designer. At least 3-5 pictures per week. (Weekly) [$650]
- Social Media Manager: Manages the class’s various social media pages, updating statuses and sending out informative messages from the teacher. Works heavily with the class photographer and web designer. Obligations vary from week to week (Weekly) [$850] *Requires some knowledge of Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Vine
- Web Designer: Responsible for keeping the class website up to date. Post-new information to the page. Works heavily with the classroom photographer, and social media manager (Weekly) [$750]
- Electrician: Responsible for Monitoring electrical usage in the classroom determines the daily charge and reports the monthly total. Creatively presents ideas on how to conserve energy and reduce the monthly bill (Daily) [$800]
- Police Officer: Responsible for checking for violations of classroom rules, handing out tickets to fine students who break the rules, keeps a record of all fines and fine payments. (Daily) [$800] *requires a recommendation from another teacher
- Attendance Monitor: Responsible for taking daily attendance and recording absences, also provides students with any make-up materials that they may need when they return to class (Daily) [$700] *Student must have a strong attendance record
- Clerk: Responsible for the passing out and collection of all paper in the classroom. Assist the Bulletin board designer when they are changing out the bulletin board(s) (Daily)[$700]
- Janitor/ Custodian: Responsible for making sure that all trash is picked up off of the floor and that all chairs a pushed in, or up. (Daily) [$600]
- Master Supply Organizer: Responsible for making sure all areas of the room are neat , clean and organized, including the Library. (Daily) [$600]
- Technology Supervisor: Responsible for passing out and putting away all technology, makes sure that all devices are plugged in (Daily) [$600]
- Messenger: Responsible for taking all messages throughout the building, running errands, and answering the classroom phone. (Daily) [$550]
- Substitute: Responsible for performing the job of any absent student with daily duties. And/or assisting any student with daily duties. Must report all days worked to the Attendance Monitor (Varies)[$50 per day worked]
